Al-Jaathiyah is one of my most favorite soorahs but there is one verse that always jump out at me and that is ayaah #28. wa taraa kulla ummatin jaathiyatan kullu ummatin yud`aa ilaa kitaabihaal yawma tujzawna maa kuntum ta'maloona "And you will see each nation humbled to their knees {kneeling}, each nation will be called to its Record {of deeds}. This Day you shall be recompensed for what you used to do." [45:28] [1] What comes to my mind when I read this verse?? Allaah's Power, Majesty, Honour, and Greatness!! Then I think of my weaknesses and the general condition of my soul which I have consistently wronged. None of us are free of sin. The Messenger (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, <"By Him in Whose Hand is my life, if you were not to commit sin, Allaah would sweep you out of existence and He would replace {you by} those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from Allaah, and He would have pardoned them.">[2] It makes me think of all the sins that I have done in the past (including the ones that I don't even remember) plus the ones that I am sure I will probably commit in the future. Rasoolullaah (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said that none will enter Jannah unless our Lord has mercy upon them. <"The deeds of anyone of you will not save you {from the Hellfire}." They said, 'Even you {will not be saved by your deeds}, O Allaah's Messenger?' He said, 'No, even I {will not be saved} unless and until Allaah ta`alaa protects me with His Grace and His Mercy.'...">[3] Which of us has a guarantee of Allaah's Mercy, His Forgiveness, and His Pardon? Again, Allaah's Messenger (sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, <"Do not be delighted by the actions of anyone until you see how he ends up.">[4] If Allaah were to punish anyone of us, wa a`oodhu billaah, He certainly would not be unjust. I close my eyes and imagine that dreadful Day. "O mankind! Fear your Lord and be dutiful to Him! Verily, the earthquake of the Hour {of Judgement} is a terrible thing."[22:1] How terrified I will be! <"The people will sweat so profusely on the Day of resurrection that their sweat will sink seventy cubits deep into the earth, and it will rise up, till it reaches the people's mouths and ears.">[5] Then my name will be called and I will have to stand before my Lord. Will I have to account for everything that I have done and have not done? <"...Whoever will be called to account {about his deeds on the Day of Resurrection} will surely be punished...whoever is argued about his account will certainly be perished {or ruined}.">[6] When I think of this my heart trembles. Will I be one of those who are blessed to receive my book in my right hand; One of the losers who will receive their books in their left hand; Or even worse, one whom Allaah doesn't even want to look at and gives them their book from behind their back?? "So those on the Right Hand {i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands}, who will be those on the Right Hand? {As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise}. And those on the Left Hand {i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands}, who will be those on the Left Hand? {As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell}." [56:8,9] & "But whosoever is given his Record behind his back" [84:10] There I am standing at the Siraat. I don't even want to cross it because I'm scared I won't make it. "There is not one of you but will pass over it {Hell}..." [19:71] Yaa Allaah!! And if He blesses me to make it across safely will I make it safely pass the kuntharah?! <"The believers, after being saved from the {Hell} Fire, will be stopped at a bridge between Paradise and Hell and mutual retaliation will be established among them regarding wrongs they have committed in the world against one another. After they are cleansed and purified {through the retaliation}, they will be admitted into Paradise; and by Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, everyone of them will know his dwelling in Paradise better than he knew his dwelling in this world.">[7], and <"Whoever has wronged his brother, should ask for his pardon {before his death}, as {in the Hereafter} there will be neither a Dinar nor a Dirham. {He should secure pardon in this life} before some of his good deeds are taken and paid to his brother, or, if he has done no good deeds, some of the bad deeds of his brother are taken to be loaded on him {in the Hereafter}.">[8] "And you will see each nation humbled to their knees {kneeling}, each nation will be called to its Record {of deeds}. This Day you shall be recompensed for what you used to do." [45:28] These are the images that this one verse alone brings to my mind... "O my Lord! Forgive my sins and forgive my ignorance and also forgive all of my exceeding the limits and what you know better than I. O Allaah! Forgive my mistakes, those done intentionally or out of my ignorance, {without} or with seriousness, and I confess that all such mistakes are done by me. O Allaah! Forgive my sins of the past and of the future, which I did openly and secretly. You are the One Who makes the things go ahead {or before}, and You are the one Who delays them, and You are Omnipotent."[9] Subhaanaka allaahumma wa bi hamdika ash hadu an laa ilaaha ill anta astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayk. Ummu `Isa Haneefa [1] (And you will see each nation humbled to their knees {Jaathiyah},) kneeling, fearful of the tremendous calamity and events. It was said that this will occur when Hellfire will be brought forth, for she will exhale once, and everyone will fall to their knees, including Ibrahim, the Khaleel. He will proclaim, "Myself, myself, myself! Today, I will not ask You {O Allaah} but about myself.'' And even `Isa, will proclaim, "Today, I will only argue before You on my own behalf, I will not ask You about Maryam, who gave birth to me.'' http://www.tafsir.com/default.asp?sid=45&tid=48418 [2] Muslim #6622 @ SPUBS [3] al-Lu'lu wal Marjan #1793 [4] Ahmad & ibn abi `Aasim; `Aqeedatus Salaf by Shaykh as-Saaboonee pg. 83 [5] al-Lu'lu wal Marjan #1821 [6] al-Lu'lu wal Marjan #1827 [7] al-Bukhaaree #6127 @ SPUBS [8] al-Bukhaaree #6126 @ SPUBS [9] al-Lu'lu wal Marjan #1737 |
